Yong Tao is a Professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Life Sciences, Yunnan University. He received his B.S. in Plant Science from Huazhong Agricultural University in 2002 and his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2009. He served as Assistant and then Associate Investigator at the Beijing Institute of Genomics, CAS (2009–2014), and conducted postdoctoral research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (2014–2019) and Fred Hutch Cancer Center (2019–2022). He joined Yunnan University in June 2022.
The lab uses tissue organoids, cancer cell lines, tumor organoids, and mouse models, combining genetics, epigenetics, genomics, and cell biochemistry to study how colonic stem-cell fate decisions relate to colorectal tumorigenesis, and the molecular mechanisms of cell-fate transdifferentiation in androgen receptor-positive prostate cancer under therapy — with the goal of improving clinical management of both cancers.
